Tyvek 11 Mil used for banner

Posted by Carrie Burns on 16th Jul 2020

This material is being used to print temporary banners for outdoor use. It is working better than expected. Our HP DesignJetT1700 uses dye-based inks which fade over time, but I am pleased to report that a temporary banner posted outdoors for 6 weeks is still readable, although quite faded. The material is extremely durable and has not torn at all. The adapters for the 2 inch plotter spindle work just fine.

Tyvek Paper - Not for 2" Core Plotters

Posted by Renee Wasson on 11th Apr 2016

This paper meets our needs - durability, resistance to creases. But it isn't made for plotters requiring 2" core. The "adapter" doesn't help because the roll is to wide to mount onto our HP DesignJet 500 (s). I'm looking for a substitute product in lieu of new equipment!

Worked great! Perfect for our project.

Our Firewise Committee used the Tyvek banner material to create eight banners for a standing display. We inserted grommets on the edges to attach them to a PVC tubing frame. The Tyvek material is sturdy and printed beautifully with our HP Designjet printer. We set the printer for Extra Heavyweight Coated Paper and Best quality. At that setting, photos printed clearly without lines. The corners didn't tear where we inserted the grommets, nor did they tear when our display was set up outside all day. Hugh advised me that the dye-based ink required by our printer will fade in a couple of years. If the banner is used outdoors, the ink will fade in a little over a week. We will keep the banners rolled up and stored in the dark when not using them for events and meetings. We applied a Krylon UV protective clear spray to see if that will help keep the ink from fading. If not, we'll buy more banner material and re-print. Hugh said latex-based inks would not fade like the dye-based inks our printer uses. If you have questions about how the media works, ask Hugh. He really knows his products and how well they work out in the world. I am 100% pleased with the Tyvek banner material and Hugh's customer service.
